On Monday 17th
October, our class had a critique on the business designs we came up with. I believe
he liked a high majority of our work and we went fairly well in the design
process, most aspects have still to improve but many are at where he believes
they should be.
Overall Luke believes
our work was consistent throughout all of our designs with the use of colour,
layout of the elements and type. Luke liked the shopfronts and thought they
were all done to a high standard considering out low – medium knowledge of Photoshop.
Luke also mentioned that the class was week in the use of typography, wrong use
of body or stylized, sizing and alignment were all major factors.
Luke Liked
the overall design of the logo and that I made an alternate favicon logo. I
believe I needed to make an alternate logo for the web/media as the current one
looked good on paper but didn’t have the same essence on the web. Also because
the Assignment sheet stated we needed to present a Black and white alternate,
and a full colour; considering the logo I designed used black or white and there
was no colour in the
logo, I designed an alternate.
Luke Liked my
webpage layout besides the fact I used the font from the logo as the body type
and the alignment of the centre type shouldn’t be centred (justified or left),
and the colour of the main logo was to dark and hard to see. He did like that
it looked realistic and had that web feel about it. I liked the webpage as is
and now I’ve seen some aspects from a designer’s background I have got a chance
to improve and make the next one better.
The 3D point
of sale item I believe I could have done better. It didn’t have much thought
put into it and also didn’t put much thought into the presentation of it
either. Luke liked the design but suggested next time I get it made or make it
myself so it’s a physical item. He also mentioned that it has to be something
special, something original, the record disk had an element of that and if I
put more thought into it may have worked.
With the
shopfront he liked the overall design of it but seen the inconsistency with the
colouring of the logo’s (black and white versions in different places). With a
little more planning and preparation I believe I would have noticed such a
small mistake and fixed it accordingly.
The brochure
design didn’t have as much thought put into it as I believe I should of which
showed through the design. The typography was a major flaw concerning the
sizing and use of the logo’s typeface as the body font. Luke did like the
slanted and transparent logo on the back but believe that in needed more
spacing between the edge of the paper and the items.
In all the
class did fairly well and has learnt some valuable lessons for next time.
